Medicare Advantage, also known as Medicare Part C, is health coverage offered by private insurance companies. Medicare Advantage plans offer the same benefits as Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and often includes additional coverage such as prescription drugs, dental, vision, and hearing.
One difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage is that most Medicare Advantage plans have dedicated networks of doctors and hospitals, much like employer or individual insurance you may have had in the past. With Original Medicare, you can use any provider that accepts Medicare.
A HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plan can help you stretch your health care dollar. These plans generally have affordable, fixed costs, and offer all the benefits of Original Medicare – plus some added features.
A PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan lets you balance choice with your budget. Most PPO plans give you the freedom to choose any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare, but you pay less for services received from in-network providers
With a PFFS (Private Fee-For-Service) Plan, you may receive health care services from any Medicare-eligible doctor or hospital that accepts the plans’ terms and conditions of payment
Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are Medicare Advantage plans for people living with certain medical conditions, or those with low incomes. If you’re living with a chronic condition such as diabetes, heart disease, or a lung disorder, you may want to learn about Chronic Conditions SNPs. Another type of SNP is available for people with both Medicare and Medicaid. Dual Eligible SNPs from Anthem can support you with extra benefits and coverage.
